The Light AsIan Myanmar Learning Centre began as a mobile classroom in the villages around town of Um Phang in the beginning in 2011. Later, it created an orphanage and accepted the children to stay and study there. There were over 30 children at that time and only one teacher. Then more children started coming. The majority of the children in the region are Karen ethnicity.

Soon after, New Light applied to be part of BMWEC. In 2013, we obtained a teaching permission license from Migrant Educational Coordination Center (MECC) in Tak region. Then in February 2015 we built 2 classrooms.  By the end of 2016, we were able to build 2 more classrooms. The school uses the Myanmar curriculum and also teaches basic Thai language.
