Kwe Ka Baung Learning Center was established in 1986 by the headteacher Mahn Bala Sein as a way for migrant Karen and children of other ethnic groups living in Thai-Myanmar border region to get education. Back then, especially in the 1980s, the migrant education scene was not what it is today. Mahn Bala Sein had to work very hard to secure the school’s existence and had to relocate multiple times over the years, all while he was taking care of providing education for the students.

Today, Kwe Ka Baung Learning Center has over a hundred students, 22 teachers and offers classes from Grade 1 to Grade 12, keeping up to date with current education standards in Myanmar. Mahn Bala Sein now has taken on an advisory role as a school director, while Mahn Kyaw Klaine Shue has stepped up to the position of the headteacher. The current location of Kwe Ka Baung school is at 642/5, Moo 10, Mae Pa, Mae Sot.
