Hle Bee was established in 1999 by a dedicated educator Tha Zin. It has grown from a simple house with 24 children to a multi-building compound. The students learn all the usual subjects.  The school is located close to the market of Mae Sot. While at one time the school had as many as 400 students, it has now downsized and in the future will focus on nursery through grade 4.

The majority of the students are Burmese, with some Karen and Pa-O, and their parents, most of whom work as daily laborers, line up for jobs along the river or in the markets and fields.

Tha Zin is a dynamic leader who works hard to support teachers’ professional development and ensure that the children at Hle Bee get the best education possible. Teachers meet with Tha Zin every Friday to review their progress and discuss how they can improve.

Hle Bee students take weekly art lessons from a talented local artist, stimulating their creativity and providing them with an outlet for self-expression.

The school also has a daily food program, serving rice and curry every day.  It also provides daily transportation to and from school for students who would otherwise not be able to attend.
